Food: What is it?

Like most things these days, it seems to be the source of arguments. From what is classified as “food”, to what you should eat, how much of it, and during what interval of the day. It’s an argument between vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians, and the parent that desperately wants you to let them eat their burger in peace. It’s the paleo diet verses those seeking the sweet sweet bliss of ketosis. It’s, it’s… really confusing.

This is all indicative of a society with absolutely no tradition. Ancient wisdom done met it’s match here in the good old United States. Forget a Blue Zone environment where longevity happens to you, you need to buy a new book each quarter that prescribes the exact opposite of what the previous recommended.

There are many reasons why food is such a hotly debated topic, but the simplest reason may be that we are very disconnected from our food. If we’re really honest, most of us don’t know where our food is grown, how it’s grown, or how it may have been processed. Why is that?

It’s industrialization. It’s local becoming national becoming global. It’s a food complex that’s the equivalent of the Wizard of Oz, hiding behind a curtain and telling you to pay no attention. Well, it’s time to start paying attention.
